A control system for an overpressure relief arrangement includes a valve (50) providing selective communication between a pressure passage (10) connected to a pressure vessel and a pair of relief passages (14,15), each relief passage having an overpressure relief device (4,5) therein; sensors (78,75,80,79) for monitoring the pressure in the pressure passage, the status of the relief devices, and the position of the valve; an actuator (72) to move the valve; and a computer (76) to make decisions concerning the placement of the valve based upon the data derived from the sensors. The valve normally provides communication between the pressure passage and first relief passage preferably having a rupture disc (21) therein. Upon rupture of the disc, the system pressure is monitored until it is safe to switch to the second relief passage without overpressuring the relief device therein.

A fire hydrant incorporating a pivoting disc valve (3) below the obturator (7) that can, whilst pressure is equalised, be rotated across an orifice that conveys the water flow through the hydrant. On raising the obturator (7), a differential pressure is created forcing the disc valve (3) on to its seat, thereby sealing the orifice and allowing maintenance to take place of primary seals and the obturator assembly (7). This operation can be carried out with the pipeline at operating pressure. Once completed and re-assembled the obturator (7) is lowered onto its seal. As the sealing process is completed a seal clamp (5) forces the disc valve (3) off its seat thereby equalising the pressure and allowing the disc to be rotated from the direction of flow by operating spindle (4) thereby enabling normal use.

Apparatus for radiator valve servicing has a main body 1 including a valve 5 and an adaptor 2 connecting the main body to a valve assembly support body 102. Mounted for movement within the main body is an extractor 3 comprising a shaft 30 and coupler 31 which is connected by a bayonet fitting 39,40 to the shaft and mechanically connected by a screw 37 to the valve assembly spindle 103. The coupler includes a socket 33 which fits on and facilitates unscrewing of the spindle and valve assembly from the support body. After being unscrewed, the valve assembly can be lifted past the valve 5 and, after closing the valve, withdrawn reliably from the main body because of the screw connection for servicing. A selection of adaptors and couplers enable a range of different valve systems to be serviced without draindown.
