A method is provided for securing a branch assembly (1) to a 'live' pipeline (6). An upper part (2) of the assembly incorporating the branch (13) is positioned on the pipeline over a containment ring (16) located on the pipeline and within which there is an annular seal (17) surrounding an area (6a) from which the branch is to extend. A lower part (3) of the assembly is positioned on the pipeline beneath the upper part and the two parts are secured together so that the seal is compressed and an annular space (19) is left between the two parts and the external surface of the pipeline. Grout is injected into the annular space (19) and cures to bond the two parts forming the branch assembly in position on the pipeline. The use of grout avoids having to use welding techniques on a 'live' pipeline. A coupon can be cut out of the pipeline, via the access through the branch.

A pipe repair clamp 10 especially for subsea offshore work has two half-shells 12, 14 held together around the pipe 16 by two sets of diametrically opposite interlocking formations 150, 152 comprising in each set a series of abutments 154, 156 integral with a half-shell and a series of hooks 158, 160 integral with the other half-shell. The abutments are arranged in a castellated formation and provide first surfaces opposed to and engaged by second surfaces provided by the hooks. The half-shells 12, 14 have opposed abutting longitudinal faces with a longitudinal seal between each two abutting longitudinal faces extending along the half-shells. The longitudinal seals at their ends seal against 180° seals at each end of the clamp, each 180° seal being at an end of a respective half-shell 12, 14. An annular gap 18 between the clamp 10 and the pipe 16 is fillable with repair grout.

A flexible wrapping (14) is adapted to fit around a section of pipe or pipeline (10) requiring repair. The wrapping has inner and outer skins (15 and 16) and a plurality of tags (17) for limiting the separation between the skins. The wrapping (14) is sealed in position around the pipe or pipeline by means of straps (24, 25, 29). A mould forming material (37) is introduced through a filler (30) into the space between the skins and then allowed to solidify. A sealant (36) is then introduced under pressure through an injector (32, into the mould space between the inner skin (15) and the pipe or pipeline (10). A pressure gauge indicates the pressure in the mould space. Gases may escape from the mould space through a vent (33).
