A rocket firing system comprises a magnetic core D, a co-axial driver coil A, and a sensor coil or coils B1, B2 which are connected to a device which detects the presence and the desired state of a further coil C which is inductively linked to core D. In use a low-power signal voltage is first applied to coil A; subject to the detector device indicating the presence and desired state of the firing circuit of the rocket, which includes coil C, an operating power voltage is then applied to coil A to induce a firing voltage in the firing circuit. As shown two sensor coil parts B1, B2 lie transversely of the driver coil A. Alternatively the coil parts may be arranged co-axially with core D. Coil C produces an asymmetrical flux pattern relative to coil parts B1, B2, which are preferably connected in a bridge circuit.

The invention relates to a method for acquiring the co-ordinates of a point (P) at which a projectile (4) is fired above a piece of land (1) on which a target (5a, 5b, 5c) is located. The method is characterized in that it comprises the following steps: emission of at least one laser pulse having a pre-determined duration and directed towards the target (5a, 5b, 5c); reception of the images reflected with the aid of a receiver equipped with means displaying, in a synchronized manner, the laser pulses originating from an observation segment of the piece of land (1); recovery of the coordinates of a desired firing point (P) when the operator has chosen a location after having moved the observation segment. The invention also relates to a fire-control system using such a method.

Some aspects of the invention are related to a locking device for a firearm and a method of controlling such a locking device. The locking device may include a locking cartridge adapted to be inserted into a firing chamber of the firearm, the locking cartridge may include a cartridge-like housing and a locking mechanism located in the cartridge-like housing. In some embodiments, when the locking mechanism is in an unlocked state, the locking mechanism may be extractable from the firearm's firing chamber, by cocking the firearm and when the locking mechanism is in a locked state, cocking the firearm may fasten the locking mechanism in the firearm's firing chamber. The locking device may further include an actuator adapted to change the state of the locking mechanism between the locked state and the unlocked state and a controller, in active communication with the actuator, configured to operate the actuator according to a signal received from an input device. In some embodiments, the locking cartridge, the actuator and the controller are extricable from the firearm together as a single unit.
