A single firing event activates the trigger and small arm (10) fires a predetermined number of projectiles at a rate selected to provide a desired impact spread on target (16). Where target (16) is a person, typically two or three projectiles are fired, and the rate of fire is between 10,000 and 60,000 rounds per minute, depending on the target distance.
