Um auf einfache Weise hochschmelzende Schichtwerkstoffe auf die innere Oberfläche (13) des Waffenrohres (1) aufzubringen, schlägt die Erfindung vor, die Innenbeschichtung des jeweiligen Waffenrohres (1) durch Laser-Auftragsschweißen vorzunehmen, wobei auf die innere Oberfläche des Waffenrohres ein entsprechender Laserstrahl (12) gelenkt wird, der die oberflächennahen Bereiche (100) des Waffenrohres (1) aufschmelzt. Der Schichtwerkstoff wird in pulver-, draht- oder bandförmiger Form kurz vor dem Auftreffen des Laserstrahles (12) auf die innere Oberfläche (13) des Waffenrohres (1) eingebracht und durch diesen geschmolzen, so daß sich im oberflächennahen Bereich (100) des Waffenrohres (1) ein den geschmolzenen Waffenrohrwerkstoff und den Schichtwerkstoff enthaltendes Schmelzbad (14) ausbildet, welches bei der Weiterbewegung des Laserstrahles (12) erstarrt.

The finished barrel exhibits light weight, superior axial stiffness and strength, durability, and is reliably accurate.

A chamber reinforcement for composite firearm barrel and method for forming the same. In one embodiment, the barrel includes an inner tube defining a bore that provides a bullet path and an outer sleeve preferably made of a material lighter in weight than the tube. In some embodiments, the inner tube is made of a material that preferably has a greater density and strength than the outer sleeve. The reinforcement in one embodiment may be in the form of an end cap disposed on a portion of the sleeve. The reinforcement preferably is made of a material comparable to the inner tube in density and strength to reinforce the area where a chamber is formed for receiving a cartridge. In the preferred fabrication, the reinforcement, tube, and sleeve are forged together to provide a strong and unitary structure for withstanding combustion pressures and forces associated with discharging the firearm.

The insert is arranged in a position for firing of the ammunition unit. By means of the invention, a simple solution is obtained to the problem of electrical energy transmission by virtue of the fact that other measures do not have to be taken, for example the cases of the ammunition units do not have to be adapted by complicated and cost-increasing measures.
