A primer (10, 210, 310, 410, 510, 610) for firearms comprises a cap (11, 211, 311, 411, 511, 611) containing an explosive mixture (12, 212, 312, 412, 512, 612). In proximity of the peripheral edge of the bottom of the cap there is an element (13, 213, 313, 413, 513, 613) for radial reduction of the inner space of the cap intended to be filled with the mixture, to reduce the volume of the space available for the mixture by a selected amount. The mixture is advantageously free of heavy metals and can advantageously contain diazodinitrophenol. The presence of the element for the radial reduction of the inner space of the cap makes it possible to adjust characteristics of the mixture, thus improving the characteristics of the primer.

The present invention relates to a cartridge for use with firearms capable of firing .22 caliber rimfire cartridges. The cartridge includes a bullet connect to a casing (40). The casing (40) includes a cylindrical wall (42) that extends to an end member (46) opposite the bullet and a hollow interior (44) formed by the wall (42) and the end member (46). A flange (48) extends radially outwardly from the cylindrically wall (42) at the end member (46). A projection (54) connected with the wall (42) extends inwardly into the hollow interior (44). A recess (56) for receiving priming composition is formed by the projection (54) and the end member (46). A firing pin configured for firing the cartridge of the present invention is also provided.

Cartridge ammunition, in particular armour-piercing ammunition, is proposed, which comprises a case head (1) with a central propulsive charge igniter receiver (3) and a propulsive charge igniter (4) secured in the propulsive charge igniter receiver (3). This igniter extends axially at least almost up to the outer surface (5) of the case head (1). At least in the region of the outer surface (5) of the case head (1), a gap (11) is provided between the outer circumferential surface (9) of the propulsive charge igniter (4) and the inner surface (10) of the propulsive charge igniter receiver (3) that lies opposite the circumferential surface (9). This gap (11) is at least partially filled with a self-luminous colour (12) and/or a fluorescent material. This allows the cartridge ammunition to be identified with certainty by an operator even in darkness.
