The invention relates to a method for the visual inspection and assessment of endless weld seams in pipe conduits. To this end, the pipe conduit ends (En*, En+1**) of two pipe conduits portions (Rn, Rn+1) to be linked are concentrically aligned relative each other and clamped by a clamping device (1) that acts upon the respective inner side of the pipe conduit ends. Once the base of the weld seam (S) is welded, the clamping device (1) is released and displaced in the direction of the axis of the pipe in such a manner that an image recording device (2; 2*) for recording the image of the weld seam (S), and for transmitting and reproducing it, disposed axially laterally on the tensioning device (1), is positioned in the imageable area of the weld seam. The weld seam (S), when looked at in the peripheral direction, is reproduced in weld seam sections (Sa). The invention further relates to a system for the visual inspection and assessment of endless weld seams in pipe conduits.
