A method and apparatus for detecting and analyzing errors in a communications system is described. The method employs expert system techniques to isolate failures to specific field replaceable units and attempts to restore the failing unit to service, if the system will not be adversely affected, by removing it from service, resetting the resource and returning it to service if it passes retesting. The expert system techniques include detailed decision trees designed for each resource in the system. The decision trees also filter extraneous sources of errors from affecting the error analysis results.

Die Rissbildung wird unter zyklischer Belastung als raum- und zeitdiskretes Ereignis betrachtet und über einen Poisson-Punktprozess unter Zugrundelegung eines Hazardansatzes modelliert. Die Erfindung bietet damit eine Möglichkeit, eine Versagenswahrscheinlichkeit eines Maschinenbauteils zu einem wählbaren Zeitpunkt zu beziffern, wodurch die Versagenswahrscheinlichkeit für Betrieb und Wartung der Maschine berücksichtigt werden kann.

The invention relates to a method for determining the probability of failure P of a machine component which is cyclically loaded in operation with a geometry Ω up to a time t 0 . The cracking under cyclical loading is considered as a spatially-discrete and time-discrete event and is modelled by means of a Poisson point process on the basis of a hazard approach. Thus the invention offers a possibility for quantifying a probability of failure of a machine component at a selectable time, such that the probability of failure can be taken into consideration for operation and maintenance of the machine.
