The passenger service unit is associated with a passenger seat of the aircraft. The passenger services system further includes an infrared transmitting unit (120; 220; 320, 340, 370, 380; 424, 434, 444) associated with the passenger seat. The infrared transmitting unit is configured to send signals to control operation of the cabin services system. The passenger services system includes a control unit (160; 260; 460) including an infrared receiver. The control unit (160; 260; 460) is associated with the passenger service unit. The infrared receiver is configured to receive the signals from the infrared transmitting unit. The control unit (160; 260; 460) is configured to control the operation of the cabin services system in response to receiving the signals.

The present application relates to a remote control device (30) for controlling a plurality of controllable devices (11-15). The remote control device (30) comprises at least two spaced apart antennas (34, 35) for receiving a radio signal from a same positioning device (20), a sending unit (32) for sending a control signal, and a control unit (31). The control unit (31) is configured to determine a position information of the remote control device (30) in relation to the positioning device (20) based on the radio signal, to select a controllable device of the plurality of controllable devices (11-15) depending on the position information, and to send a control information for controlling the selected controllable device via the control signal with the sending unit (32) to the selected controllable device.
