Furthermore, since the two TFTs (T1,T2) for controlling the two pixel electrodes (P,PB)respectively have a same parasitic capacitor, when the pixel unit is turned off, the voltage difference between the two pixel electrodes is kept unchanged and image flicker can be avoided.

A driving system taking into consideration the conductivity of a TFT which controls the light emitting operations of a current-driven light emitting element. When an N-channel type TFT is used as the second TFT (30) which switches supply of a driving current to a light emitting element (40), a high gate voltage (Vgcur) is obtained by lowering the potential at a common feeder line (com) against the potential at the counter electrode (op) of the element (40). A p-channel TFT is used as a first TFT (20) and the polarity of the low potential of a scanning signal (Sgate), and the potential at the common feeder line (com) is made equal to that of the potential at a potential holding electrode (st) at turning-on time. The driving voltage of the light emitting element is dropped and the display quality of the element is improved by shifting the potential of picture signals (data) for turning on in the direction in which the turning-on resistances of the TFTs (20 and 30) become smaller within the range of the driving voltage of the display device (1).

A display apparatus is disclosed. A display panel includes a plurality of display pixels arranged at intersections of a plurality of scanning lines and a plurality of data lines. A scanning drive unit sequentially applies a scanning signal to each of the scanning lines and sets the corresponding display pixels to a selection state. A data drive unit generates a gradation signal corresponding to the display data and supplies the gradation signal to the display pixels. A power source drive unit supplies to the display pixels a drive voltage for controlling a drive state of each of the display pixels. A drive control unit controls the power source drive unit to operate to set the display pixels to a non-display operation state during a non-display period, and controls the scanning drive unit to operate to set the display pixels to the selection state during the non-display period.

A display apparatus, that includes current driving type luminescent elements, has a driving system that takes the conduction types of TFTs to control the emission of the luminescent elements into consideration. In order to reduce driving voltage and improve display quality simultaneously, the arrangement is provided such that if the second TFT (30) which performs the "on-off" function of the current for the luminescent element (40) is of an N channel type, the potential of the common power supply line ("com") is lowered below the potential of the opposite electrode ("op") of the luminescent element (40) to obtain a higher gate voltage ("Vgcur"). In this case, if the first TFT (20) connected to the gate of the second TFT (30) is of a P channel type, when using the potential of the potential-holding electrode ("st") at the "on" state as a reference, potentials of the scanning signal ("Sgate") at the lower potential and the common power supply line ("com") are rendered of the same polarities with respect to this potential of the potential-holding electrode ("st"). Therefore, the potential of the image signal ("data") to turn "on" can be shifted within the range of the driving voltage in the display apparatus (1) in the direction to reduce resistances at the "on" states of the first TFT (20) and the second TFT (30) to reduce driving voltage and improve display quality.
