    摘要: A transducer (120) for a stringed musical instrument utilizes a coaxial structure. An electromechanical film tape is disposed about an inner, electrically conductive core (210). An outer conductor (230) is formed about the electromechanical film tape. The electromechanical film tape may be provided as a piezoelectric polymer film (200) or an electret film having a permanent electric charge, and is formed about the inner core by wrapping or braiding. Prior to being disposed about the inner core, the film tape may be polarized through the application of a direct current through the film to substantially align the electrical domains in the film. The transducer (120) is configured for placement underneath the saddle in a bridge of a string musical instrument.

    摘要: A pickup for a stringed musical instrument according to the first aspect of the invention has a core, a piezoelectric transducer element, a contact strip, and an output lead. The core is elongated and multi-faced, and has an electrically conducting face. The piezoelectric transducer element includes a piezoelectric film that has a first surface, and a second surface opposite the first surface. A first electrode covers at least part of the first surface, and a second electrode covers at least part of the second surface. The piezoelectric transducer element covers substantially all of the electrically conducting face of the core, and is attached to the core with its first electrode in contact with the electrically conducting face of the core. The contact strip contacts at least part of the second electrode of the piezoelectric transducer element. The output lead has a first conductor connected to the electrically conducting face of the core, and a second conductor connected to the contact strip. In a first variation, the piezoelectric transducer element is enlarged and serves not only as a piezoelectric transducer element, but also provides an electrical shield and insulator for the pickup. In a second variation, two thicker piezoelectric transducer elements are stacked on the core to increase the electrical output of the pickup without a reduction in capacity.

    摘要: The piezoelectric transducer saddle (11) of the present invention is a thin, generally rectangular member that is designed to fit into a bridge slot (13) of a musical instrument such as a guitar (14). The piezoelectric element is oriented vertically in the saddle and constitutes a structural member of the saddle. A first embodiment of the saddle (11) comprises a piezoelectric element (22) that forms the saddle itself. Electrical contacts (42, 44) are engaged to the side of the piezoelectric element to produce electrical output. A preferred embodiment of the saddle (110) is a laminated structure wherein the laminated layers (118) are disposed vertically, and a vertical layer (122) composed of a piezoelectric material is generally centrally disposed within the laminated structure. A metallic electrical contact (120, 130) is engaged on each side of the piezoelectric material to receive electrical signals generated by the piezoelectric material.
