The diffraction grating (2) comprising a non-grating region. The zero-order diffraction light in the non-grating region is used as the main beam for reproducing the information signal, and the +1-order or -1-order diffraction light in the grating region is used as sub-beams for reproduction of the tracking error signal. Thus, the light amount of both the main beam and the sub-beams can be increased without increasing the light emission of the semiconductor laser element 1, and the S/N ratio of the main beam and the sub-beams can be enhanced.

It is an object of the present invention to provide a data reproducer in which the quality of a reproduction signal is improved. A data reproducer of the present invention includes a phase-difference detecting section which obtains the cross correlation value between the head pattern in a track to be reproduced and a reproduction signal, synchronous detectors which respectively obtain the cross correlation value between the head pattern of a track adjacent to the track to be reproduced and the reproduction signal, and crosstalk value detector which obtains the direction and ratio of crosstalk in accordance with these cross correlation values. The data reproducer has a correcting function which corrects the offset and gain of a reproduction signal in accordance with a phase difference and cross correlation value obtained by the phase-difference detecting section.

A uniformity and a production efficiency are heightened by reducing a alignment tolerance. In addition, a configuration tolerance caused due to an uneven thickness of a protection layer of the record layer on the disk and an uneven smoothness of the disk is corrected, so that a focal point of an objective lens can be optimally made on a record layer of the disk.

A focus servo control is performed by changing a condition of a focus servo loop from an open condition to a close condition in correspondence with a level of a reflection light signal, which is obtained as a reflection light of a light beam reflected from an information record medium is detected by a light receiving element such as an optical pickup. A focus servo controlling apparatus is provided with: a disturbance level detecting device such as a servo control circuit for detecting a level of a disturbance light signal, which is obtained as a disturbance light other than the reflection light is received by the light receiving element; and a controlling device such as a system controller for setting a level, which is larger than the level of the disturbance light signal detected by the disturbance level detecting device, as a threshold level and for changing the condition of the focus servo loop from the open condition to the close condition on the basis of a timing when the level of the reflection light signal becomes equal to or larger than the set threshold level.
