    The method involves the following steps for writing information:

    mutually parallel displacing the surfaes of said/write arrangement (7...17e) and of said storage medium (6) in order to align a selected one of said particulate protrusions (17a, 17d, 17e) with a selected bit location within the associated bit cell,
    decreasing the distance between said read/write arrangement (7...17e) and said storage medium (6) so that the said particulate protrusions (17) exert pressure onto the storage medium (6)

    The method further involves the following steps for reading information:

    mutually parallel displacing the surfaces of said read/write arrangement (7...17e) and of said storage medium (6) in order to align a selected one of said particulate protrusions (17a, 17d, 17e) with the bit location within the associated bit cell from which information is to be read,
