An audio client in a home entertainment system has a detachable remote commander (109) with a display screen. A menu of music available at the server (201) is downloaded to the remote commander (109) from the server (201) over the network (200) and through the client device (202, 203). The user can easily select a tune he/she wants to listen to using the remote commander (109). With storage and decoding capability, the commander (109) can be used as a portable audio player.

A power line communication modem is provided including a transmitter configured to transmit a power line signal on at least one carrier of a plurality of carriers via a power line to a further power line communication modem; and a processor configured to allocate transmit powers to individual carriers of the plurality of carriers, wherein the sum of the transmit powers of individual carriers located in the first frequency range is below or equal to a first predetermined power maximum value for the first frequency range. A corresponding power line communication system and a power line communication method are provided as well.

Apparatus (10) for the selective propagation in a closed area (12) of radio signals (R) transmitted by an external radio source (S), wherein the closed area (12) is provided with an internal electric network (11) connected to an external electric power network (14). The apparatus (10) comprises a base station (16) provided with an interface device (31) and a programmable electronic unit (32), and one or more signal transducers (13) separate and remote from the base station (16) inside said closed area (12) and connected to the base station (16) by means of electric conductors (11a) of the same internal electric network (11). The interface device (31) is configured to capture and condition said radio signals (R) and possibly to generate secondary radio signals (R1), and the programmable electronic unit (32) is connected to the interface device (31) and to the internal electric network (11) to receive the radio signals (R) and/or the secondary radio signals (R1) to generate a conducted radio signal (Ru) and to transmit it to the signal transducers (13).

An apparatus for collecting data for use in monitor system, wherein the apparatus is placed in each of a plurality of monitor's houses to collect data such as TV audience rating and market research data and the monitored data thus collected are sent to a data center through telephone circuits and are processed by a large computer to calculate desired data. The apparatus for collecting data comprises a channel detector for detecting the channel of a TV receiver that is being watched, a market research data input device, a personal data input device, and a data processing apparatus which stores and processes the data that are input. The detected channel data and a personal identification data are sent to the data processor via a commercial power distribution lines. The market research data are input by using a bar code reader and a keyboard efficiently without any predetermined procedure. The personal data is input by using an input device which utilizes infrared rays, and is easily identified by displaying a personal illustration.

Transmission power of a signal may be lowered in response to detecting a broadcast radio transmission. A communication device may communicate via a powerline communication (PLC) medium by transmitting, via the PLC medium, a signal having at least a first carrier frequency. The communication device may detect a broadcast radio transmission. The communication device may lower a transmission power setting associated with the first carrier frequency from a first power level to a second power level that is lower than the first power level in response to detecting the broadcast radio transmission. The communication device may transmit, via the PLC medium, the signal having at least the first carrier frequency at the second power level during a time period associated with the broadcast radio transmission.

Embodiments of the present invention provide a combined receiver and power adapter (10). The adapter (10) generally includes a coupling element (12) operable to couple with a power source (S), a receiver (14) operable to wirelessly receive information, a housing (16) operable to house the coupling element (12) and the receiver (14), and a connection element (18) operable to couple the coupling element (12) and the receiver (14) with an electronic device (D). Coupling of the connection element (18) with the electronic device (D) enables the adapter (10) to provide power and/or received information to the electronic device (D). Such a configuration enables the electronic device (D) to be provided with power and information without requiring the use of a plurality of cables or numerous external housings.
