The invention relates to a circuit configuration for remote feeding of a local component (21) which is connected to the exchange component (20) of an out-of-area switching device of a message transmission system via a transmission line (1, 2). Said device comprises a d.c. converter (14, 15) which preferably comprises a transducer-transformer (14). Said d.c. converter (14, 15) converts the voltage of a remote feeding voltage source which can be connected to a transmission line in the exchange component. Subscriber terminals which are connected to the local component (21) are thereby fed. A monitoring device (23) is provided in the local component (21). The current electrical power requirement of the local component (21) and the subscriber terminals connected thereto can be determined by said monitoring device (23). The remote feeding voltage source can be controlled by means of a transmission device which is connected to the transmission line (1, 2) by means of the monitoring device (23) on the basis of the electrical power requirement thus determined.

Each SLIC applies a sufficient voltage derived from a battery to the line to operate the respective telephone, and dissipates any excess power supplied by the battery. The apparatus includes common power regulation means (30), which incorporates a switch mode power supply unit (68), and which monitors the voltages being applied by the SLICs at any one time and reduces the voltage applied to the SLICs to substantially the maximum voltage required by any one of the SLICs, thereby reducing the amount of power dissipated by the SLICs.

This invention relates to an earth detecting circuit for a long-distance subscriber's circuit in a small-capacity digital electronic switch-board. A DC/DC converter of a power source for supplying electric power is stopped when an earth is detected. Upon receiving a stop signal, the DC/DC converter converts the source voltage for the subscriber's circuit into the voltage of the system power source for the switch-board, i.e., the voltage before the conversion by the DC/DC converter. The supply resistors in the power supplying circuit are not broken even when the current continues to flow through the supply resistors because of the earth, and the alarm state is kept until the operation for resume is performed.

A subscriber line interface circuit (32) provides regulated current to a telephone subscriber (14) in an improved manner by reducing the amount of power required to operate while maintaining a constant current source. The current to the telephone subscriber (14) flows through a switching transistor (92, Fig. 3), and inductive storage element (98, Fig. 3), sensing resistors (54, 56) and a hybrid transformer (38). The desired operating characteristic is obtained by cycling the switching transistor (92). The switching transistor (92) is cycled on at a preset interval causing the telephone subscriber current to flow from the switching transistor. The switching transistor is cycled off in response to an increase in the telephone subscriber current as sensed by the sensing resistors (54, 56) thereby causing the current to flow from the inductive storage element (38). A current sensor (60) coupled to the sensing resistors (54, 56) supplies a current level signal SUMSIG to the switch-mode current source (52) that includes the transistor (92)2 and the inductive storage element (38). Saturation of the transformer (38) is prevented by regulated opposing current supplied by a source (80) controlled by the SUMSIG signal.

To reduce dissipation SMPS converters 2 and 4 are used. Step down converter 2 converts the voltage of supply source 6 down to a lower direct voltage across output capacitor 14, under the control of a periodic pulse-like control signal 22 with variable duty cycle. Due to the common mode currents on the telecommunication line the voltage across output capacitor 14 can rise to a higher value than the desired output voltage if the charge supplied by the common mode current exceeds the charge discharged by the load. This output voltage can now no longer be decreased by reducing the duty cycle of the control signal. To be able to discharge this excess charge free of dissipation a step-up converter 4 is provided returning this excess charge to the supply source 6.
