The present invention is directed to a laser printer including a printer controller, a printhead including a plurality of lasers formed in an array for receiving modulating image data from the printer controller, a variable magnifying means such as a zoom lens, and a drum on which a receiver member is mounted on which an image is to be printed. The printer controller is arranged to selectively use any one of a set of predetermined microdot matrixing values and a separate sub-microdot matrix associated therewith, and distribute image data to the plurality of lasers based on such microdot and submicrodot matrixing values. The variable magnification means (e.g., a zoom lens) applies optical magnification or demagnification to light beams from the array of lasers to provide selective variable microdot matrixing values between the predetermined microdot matrixing values of the set. Therefore, any dot density between a low and a high microdot matrix value of the set of predetermined microdot matrixing values is produced using combinations of microdot and sub-microdot matrixing by the printer controller and variable magnification of the zoom lens.

The image data is rotated 90 degrees (step S24), and the rotated image data is facsimiled in the A4-R direction on the ITU's advice (step S28). Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren und eine Anordnung zur Bildaufnahme für die Datenerfassung und Sicherheitsprüfung von Dokumenten, insbesondere zur automatisierten Prüfung der Echtheit von Dokumenten, in denen versteckte Informationen zur Sicherheitsprüfung eingearbeitet sind. Die Aufgabe, eine neue Möglichkeit zur Bildaufnahme für eine Datenerfassung und eine Echtheitsprüfung von Dokumenten zu finden, die in kürzester Zeit und mit geringem gerätetechnischem Aufwand einen automatisierten Nachweis des Vorhandenseins und eine hoch aufgelöste Aufnahme von versteckten Informationen zur Hochsicherheitsprüfung gestattet, wird erfindungsgemäß gelöst, indem ein Gesamtbild eines Dokuments mit relativ geringer Bildauflösung aufgenommenen wird, um einen Dokumententyp zu bestimmen, dem Dokumententyp gespeicherte Sicherheitsmerkmale zuzuordnen und, falls der Dokumententyp ein definiertes Sicherheitsmerkmal aufweist, für dessen Auswertung eine erheblich höhere Bildauflösung erforderlich ist, die Bildaufnahmeeinheit auf eine eingeschränkte Bildaufnahme eines interessierenden Bereichs des Dokuments mit höherer Bildauflösung umzuschalten, ein hochaufgelöstes Teilbild aufzunehmen und zur Echtheitsprüfung mit den Daten einer Datenbank zu vergleichen.
