The present application provides a communication method and apparatus as well as a chip. The method includes: monitoring a wake-up signal from a network device, wherein the wake-up signal is used to wake up the terminal device that monitors, on a next paging occasion, PO, a physical downlink control channel, PDCCH, scrambled by a paging radio network temporary identifier, P-RNTI; determining, according to the wake-up signal a monitoring situation of monitoring the PDCCH scrambled by the P-RNTI on the next PO; herein the wake-up signal comprises first indication information, the first indication information is used for an indication of waking up at least one group of terminal devices; the first indication information is bitmap information, each bit in the bitmap information corresponds to a group of terminal devices, and the bit is used for an indication of a wake-up state of the terminal device in the corresponding group of terminal devices.

A method for transmitting a traffic indication message for directing a mobile subscriber station (MSS) in a sleep mode to transition to an awake mode in a Broadband Wireless Access communication system supporting the sleep mode and the awake mode. This method includes the steps of individually allocating, to MSSs belonging to a corresponding base station, corresponding areas indicating traffic instructions for the MSSs in a traffic indication field in the traffic indication message, and indicating state transition instructions in the areas allocated to the MSSs, before transmitting the traffic indication message to the MSSs.

Embodiments of the present invention, relating to the communications field, disclose a paging optimization method, apparatus, and system, so as to ensure that a terminal normally receives a paging message sent by a system. A specific solution is: receiving a first paging message sent by a core network node, where the first paging message is used to page a terminal; and sending control information with enhanced coverage and/or a second paging message with enhanced coverage to the terminal in response to the first paging message. The present invention is used in a paging optimization process.

Embodiments of the present invention provide a sequence configuration method, a subframe generation method, a network side device, and user equipment. The sequence configuration method includes: based on area division, generating, by a network side device, a first sequence group, and sending the first sequence group to a first device and a second device, so that the first device located in a first sub-area pages and/or synchronizes with the second device by using the first sequence group. In this way, the first device pages or synchronizes with the second device according to a sequence, thereby implementing paging for the second device.

Methods and apparatus for paging comprise receiving data destined for a UE. The methods and apparatus further comprise determining a short identity for the UE relative to a longer global user equipment identity and identifying a MIB transmission based on a short identity. Moreover, the methods and apparatus comprise activating a bit within a slot of the MIB transmission to indicate that the user equipment listen for a page in order to receive the data and broadcasting the MIB. In other aspects, methods and apparatus for receiving a page comprise entering an idle state while camped on a cell. The methods and apparatus further comprise waking up from the idle state to monitor a slot of a MIB for a paging indication. Moreover, the methods and apparatus comprise recognizing the paging indication in the monitored slot of the MIB, determining a paging window based on correlation information in a SIB and waking up to listen for a page during the paging window.
