    摘要： A carton for packaging articles includes a generally rectangular top wall (12) having a pair of spaced hand apertures (26, 27) formed therein. The hand apertures are disposed to define therebetween a handle strip (100) for use in lifting the carton. The top wall (12) is provided with a fold line (102, 105, 108, 111) extending from the region of each corner of the top wall (12) toward the handle strip (100) and further with a first severance line (91, 92, 93, 94) extending transversely of each fold line (102, 105, 108, 111). Each first severance line (91, 92, 93, 94) is interposed between the handle strip (100) and the respective fold line (102, 105, 108, 111) such that each fold line terminates at the respective severance line (91, 92, 93, 94). This arrangement prevents stress concentration at the region of the handle strip (100) when the carton is lifted.

    摘要： An article carrier having bottom, top, side and end walls interconnected to form an enclosure of rectilinear configuration and having a pair of spaced apart hand hole openings (27,27a) formed in the top wall includes a reinforcing strip (26) secured to the inner surface of the top wall and between the hand hole openings. End extensions (26a,26b) which may or may not be adhered project from each end of the reinforcing strip and are folded into flat face contacting relation with the end walls (20a,23a) respectively and are secured thereto. The fold lines between the end extensions and the cooperating end edges of the reinforcing strip are debossed so as to protrude inwardly and mate with a complementary embossed area which is encased by torque relief slits (42,43,44) thereby reducing the tension along the outer surfaces of the fold lines between the top wall and the end walls so as effectively to strengthen the load bearing elements of the carrier top wall.

    摘要： A flat end closure arrangement for a thermoplastic coated paperboard container, and the blank therefor, wherein four sets of dual, oppositely skewed, supplementary score lines (82, 84, 86, 88, 90, 92, 94, 96) are formed on two sides of the resultant end closure, such that they are adapted to be folded into position just inside the usual horizontal score lines (16) separating the end closure panels from the sidewall panels. These supplementary score lines provide a second, substantially 90o bend for the paperboard layers, supplementing a 90o bend about the respective horizontal score lines, in lieu of each usual 180o bend about the respective horizontal score lines, thereby diminishing the chances for cracking of the thermoplastic coating at the bend locations.
