A method and apparatus for combining raw fibrous and binding materials in a single mixing step (Step S3), followed by consolidation (Step S5) so as to greatly shorten the overall cycle time to a finished fiber-reinforced composite part. Chopped fibrous materials and binder materials are deposited sequentially onto a belt conveyor (Step S2) so that the materials are successively layered, one on top of each other in a predetermined ratio, and subsequently mixed (Step S3) to achieve uniform dispersion throughout. The mixed materials are then deposited into a rotating mold (Step S4) to further ensure uniform dispersion of fibrous and binder materials. Impregnation of the fibrous materials with the binder material occur in-situ as the uniformly mixed materials are heated and subsequently compacted in the mold (Step S5) to obtain the desired shape of the fiber-reinforced composite part.

Die Formen (3) sind mit Grundplatten (4) versehen, in denen die Füllöcher angeordnet sind. Die Grundplatten (4) ermöglichen es, die Formen (3) in quer zur Extruderdüse (2) verlaufenden Führungen (6) nacheinander aus einer Speicherzone (13) vor die Extruderdüse (2) des kontinuierlich arbeitenden Walzenextruders (1) zu schieben, zu füllen und die gefüllten Formen (3) über eine Wartezone hinweg auf eine Aushebestation (14) zu schieben, wobei bereits eine Abkühlung des Formeninhaltes erfolgt. Apparatus for continuously transferring orderly sequences of preforms, comprising a closed-loop conveyor belt that constitutes guiding means for a closed-loop moving conveyor chain, which is adapted to be driven into a continuous motion and comprises a plurality of support and forward carrying elements (3, 3a) capable of carrying respective preforms by means of appropriate pick-up plugs, a loading station and an unloading station. The loading and unloading stations are arranged so as to enable the preforms to be loaded onto the pick-up plugs, and released therefrom, in a vertical position with their neck portion turned upwards. The support and forward carrying elements are in turn rotated so that, when they move into the conditioning station, the respective preforms are positioned vertically with their neck portion turned downwards. The apparatus further comprises two horizontal stretches that follow a conditioning station and precede the preform loading station, respectively. Said two horizontal stretches are capable of being lengthened and/or shortened so as to be given a predetermined length in accordance to the time specifically assigned to the particular types of preforms for covering the stretch from the conditioning station to the unloading station, wherein the overall length of said conveyor belt and the related chain must however remain constant.
