An assembly for providing a number of different size orifices for a sprayer unit, such as a hand-held paint sprayer, has an orifice plate (121 with a number of orifices (171 of different diameters radially disposed near a periphery of the plate. The plate (12) has a centrally disposed pivot pin (13, 14) which is received in a complementary slot (15,16) in the nozzle guard (2) for the sprayer unit. The orifice plate (12) has a like number of detents (23) in the perifphery thereof, and is held in place both within the slot and so as to align one of the orifices with the discharge nozzle for the sprayer unit, by a clip spring (19) having angled free ends (24) respectively received in detents (23) on opposite sides of the orifice plate. Axial movement of the orifice plate is restrained by tightening the nozzle guard (2) which is received by threads on the sprayer unit. When a different orifice size is desired, the nozzle guard (2) is loosened, the orifice plate (12) is rotated about the pivot pin (13, 14) to position the desired orifice (17) in front of the discharge nozzle, and the nozzle guard (2) is again tightened.

However, problems are obtained when the valve stem of the valve actuator is no longer usable, for example, due to wear and/or breakage. In conventional arrangements, the whole valve assembly is removed and the valve stem is replaced. However, as each valve has an optimum length for the associated valve stem, replacement of a valve stem by one which is too long or too short impairs the operation of the equipment. Described herein is an adjustable valve stem apparatus (10) adapted for use in an injection molding equipment or device comprises a cylindrical body (12) comprising internally threaded fixed portion (14) and moveable portion (16) threadably mounted on a double-ended screw (30). Moveable portion (16) has a means (26) for removably mounting a valve stem (28) which communicates with a mold cavity. The double-ended screw (30) has a socket (38) formed in its top portion for adjusting the moveable portion (16) relative to the fixed portion (14) thereby correspondingly axially displacing the valve stem (28) from a first to second position relative to the mold cavity.

A non-rising stem valve assembly (2) is disclosed including a valve body (4) having an inlet (3) and an outlet (5) and is capable of accommodating a non-rising stem valve (14). The non-rising stem valve includes a bonnet member (8) securely attached to the valve body (4) and forms a tubular passageway. A valve stem (14) extends through this tubular passageway and has a lower valve portion (20) axially displacable relative thereto, with the lower valve portion (20) being positioned between the inlet (3) and outlet (5). A retaining ring (16) is provided for securing the valve stem (14) against inward movement relative to the bonnet member (8) and an inwardly projecting flange on the bonnet member is provided for securing the valve stem against outward movement relative to the bonnet member. A packing nut (24) is removably secured to the bonnet member for sealing the valve assembly. The packing nut has an interior surface and an exterior surface with a first O-ring seal (26) being provided on the interior surface and a second O-ring seal (28) being provided on the exterior surface. A third axially displacable seal (36) is provided which rests on an upper surface of the lower valve portion (20) and is axially movable with the lower valve portion. The first and second O-ring seals form permanent seals and seal the valve assembly during normal use, while the third seal forms a temporary seal which may be selectively formed between the valve stem and the bonnet member for temporarily sealing the valve assembly and, allowing the permanent seals to be replaced when necessary without decommissioning the valve assembly. A method of replacing the permanent seals is also disclosed.
