An overlay mattress includes a foil mattress of plastic material in a surrounding envelope of textile material. The foil mattress has channels and a preferably self-closing valve for filling air into the channels that are also at least partly filled with fibers of so-called ball fiber and/or with foam plastics, at least in such an amount that the plastic material of the foil mattress is mutually separated. The channels extend transversely to the longitudinal direction of the mattress, and the channels are interconnected via air passages. Methods of manufacturing such an overlay mattress are also disclosed.

[Solution] A network structure comprising a three-dimensional random loop bonded structure obtained by forming random loops by curling treatment of a continuous linear structure comprising a thermoplastic resin, and by making each loop mutually contact in a molten state to weld the majority of contacted parts, wherein (a) the continuous linear structure is a hollow cross section, (b) the degree of hollowness of the hollow cross section is not less than 10% and not more than 50%, (c) the fiber diameter of the continuous linear structure is not less than 0.10 mm and not more than 0.65 mm, and (d) the number of bonded points per unit weight of the random loop bonded structure is not less than 200/g and less than 500/g.

Framework-like structures suffer from a problem in that transport costs are increased because bulk density is low. A mattress (1) composed of a framework-like structure is placed in a bag (2) for compression, a zipper of the bag (2) for compression is closed, a suction port of a suction device such as a vacuum cleaner is brought into contact with a non-return valve and air is suctioned out to thereby place and seal the mattress, which is in a compressed state, in a vacuum state and compress the thickness of the mattress (1). An airtight state at 65°C is subsequently maintained inside a container during transport. After transport, the zipper of the bag (2) for compression is opened, and the mattress (1) having been extracted from the bag (2) for compression is placed in a hot-air tank and restored in an atmosphere of 85°C.
