A kitchen pot or kitchen utensil has a substantially square shape with rounded corners, a flat lid, and handles or attachable means for a detachable handle received in recesses formed in the sidewalls of the pot and in the lid so as to not project overthe outer shape of the pot. In this manner the pots can be placed tigthly side by side or stacked on top of each other in a cupboard, frigidaire etc. within a minimum of available space.

A set of nestable and stackable cookware (100), for example, a set of pots and pans, is maintained in a stable configuration by stops (14,15) attached to the outer walls of the cookware. Each stacked and nested item of cookware is supported on the rim (16, 17) of the lower item by two stops (14, 15) attached to its outer wall, on opposite sides of the item. Each stop is shaped and configured to contact the rim of the lower item in the stack at a finite number of points. The points of contact lie in the same plane, which uprightly supports the stacked cookware item on the lower cookware item, without the walls or the base of the stacked cookware item touching the lower item.

The invention provides a set of cooking pans which nest completely one within the other, optionally together with their lids. Each pan of the set comprises a pan body and a side handle, and the pan bodies (6, 9, 12 and 15) are of progressively smaller diameter so that each pan body can be completely received within the next larger pan body for storage purposes, and each pan handle (7, 10 and 13) from the largest pan to at least the second smallest pan in the set is concave, creating along the top of that handle a longitudinal recess, each longitudinal recess communicating with a concavity in the top rim of the associated pan body so that when the body of a pan of smaller size is received in the pan body, the handle of the smaller pan extends through that concavity and is received wholly within the longitudinal recess in the handle of that next larger pan.
