    摘要: The invention relates to an orthopaedic brace comprising: a leg element (1) configured for being clamped firmly around the lower leg of a patient; a foot element (3) configured for supporting around the foot of the patient and comprising a walking sole (20) with a frontmost and rearmost maximal expanse in the longitudinal direction of the foot; a hinge device (4) that secures the foot element relative to the leg element and that permits the foot element to turn about an axis that corresponds essentially to the axis of the ankle joint when the brace is worn by a patient; and a releasable locking means that can be activated to prevent turning of the foot element. The invention is characterised in that the locking means can be locked in a single angle or - corresponding to the desired treatment - a very narrow angular interval of less than 10°, preferably less than 5°, whereby it is ensured that the patient does not inadvertently lock the brace in a (considerably) different angle compared to the one prescribed by the practitioner in charge.

    摘要: Flexible members are provided that define (i) a toe platform region, (ii) a longitudinal arch pad region, (iii) a heel region, and (iv) a center axis; and include a plurality of fiber layers of varying lengths. The fiber layers each include a plurality of unidirectionally aligned fibers that are angled at between about 10° and 20° relative to the center axis such that the plurality of unidirectionally aligned fibers are angled medially from the heel region to the toe platform region. The flexible members may be used as orthotics, orthotic inserts or as an orthotic footplate that is joined with respect to a brace structure to function as an ankle foot orthosis. The flexible member improves biomechanical function, including biomechanical function of the foot, ankle and knee, and advantageously imparts propulsive force in connection with a user's gait by storing and releasing an individual's own energy to assist in walking and/or standing.

The sensing/feedback mechanisms may be strap-based, or mounted/associated with webbing, ratchet systems and/or other tensioning mechanisms. The sensing/feedback mechanism may include an inductive sensor that interacts with conductive material embedded in a strap to produce a signal indicating the location of the inductive sensor with respect to the strap. The position sensor may include multiple coils and multiple conductive materials may be imbedded in the strap. The conductive material may define a variable width along the X-axis (as defined by the strap). The inductive sensor may also be used to measure the distance from the coil and a conductive material that interacts with a section of the orthotic or prosthetic device along the z-axis.
