    摘要： An apparatus and method to saturate a web (12) of paper. The apparatus (10) comprises a sealed chamber divided to form a low pressure preparation or vacuum zone (25) and a high pressure treatment zone (35). Air is evacuated from the open area between the fibers in the web portion (12b) in the vacuum zone (25) and liquid in the treatment zone is forced into the evacuated open area between the fibers in the web portion (12c). A pair of nip rollers (62, 64) are submerged in liquid in the treatment zone (35) for squeezing residual air and liquid from the open area between the fibers in the web portion (12c) to cause liquid to be drawn into the open area between the fibers in the web portion (12d) upon exiting the nip (65) between the rollers.
