Im Rahmen eines Umformverfahrens zum Erzeugen einer Schrägverzahnung eines zylindrischen Werkstücks durch Fließpressen wird einer axialen Umformbewegung eines Umformwerkzeugs (3) und eines Werkstückrohlings (4) eine in einer Umfangsrichtung (7) des Umformwerkzeugs (3) und des Werkstückrohlings (4) ausgeführte Relativbewegung des Umformwerkzeugs (3) und des Werkstückrohlings (4) überlagert. Aufgrund einer aus der gegenseitigen Überlagerung der axialen Umformbewegung und der Umformbewegung in Umfangsrichtung resultierenden Umform-Relativbewegung des Umformwerkzeugs (3) und des Werkstückrohlings (4) wird an dem Werkstückrohling (4) die Schrägverzahnung des Werkstücks erzeugt, indem das Umformwerkzeug (3) bei der resultierenden Umform-Relativbewegung mit einer formgebenden Schrägverzahnung (16) in den Werkstückrohling (4) eingreift. Eine Umformmaschine (1) ist zur Durchführung des vorgenannten Verfahrens ausgebildet.
