Der Schlitten (3) trägt ein Ultraschallbearbeitungsgerät (4) und wird durch einen ersten Zylinder (7) mit einer einstellbaren Kraft in Vorschub- richtung (A) belastet. Am Schlitten (3) ist ein Zylinder (15) befestigt, um den ein Seil (17) mit einer Schlaufe (16) von 360 Grad geschlungen ist. Das eine Ende (18) des Seils (17) ist durch eine vorgespannte Feder (20) gegen einen gehäusefesten Anschlag (21) vorbelastet. Das andere Ende (22) des Seiles (17) ist an der Kolbenstange (24) eines zweiten Zylinders (25) befestigt. Durch diesen zweiten Zylinder kann während der Bearbeitung das Werkzeug (5) vom Werkstück (6) abgehoben werden, unabhängig von der Schlittenposition. Nach dem Abheben setzt das Werkzeug (5) sanft wieder auf die erneuerte Schleifschicht auf.

A method of trial cutting, wherein stopping and restarting of trial cutting work, repeated operations of trial cutting work on a desirable portion and correcting work for a processing program can be easily performed. By providing speed increasing and decreasing keys K3, K4 for continuously changing a main shaft rotation speed R1 and speed increasing and decreasing keys K1, K2 for continuously changing a tool feed speed R2 on CRT, MDI (4) of a numerically controlled machine, whereby a main shaft rotation speed R1 and a tool feed speed R2 can be freely changed regardless of whether or not a main shaft rotation speed R1 and a tool feed speed R2 are specified by a processing program in a RAM 3, and optimal main shaft rotation speed R1 and tool feed speed R2 are determined while the cutting work is performed on the basis of a processing profile given by the processing program in the RAM 3. Since there is no need for determining optimal cutting conditions by changing a main shaft rotation speed and a tool feed speed by correcting the processing program for each processing unlike the prior art, optimal cutting conditions can be easily obtained within a short period of time.

The antagonist surfaces (60, 62) which cooperate with the lifting surfaces (56, 58) are formed of rotatingly mounted lifting rollers (40, 46) which are freed of the working pressure when the elevator table (30) is in the working position by means of offset support surfaces (38, 42, 50) of the socket (24), of the table (30) and of the slide (32). Said device is characterized by a small stroke of the slide (32), minimal friction forces, and by the fact that the extreme positions of the slide (32) need not be determined and accurately respected.

The stop controller can return automatically the cutting tools through an optimum route using a sequence program for retreat in accordance with the operation interruption state at the time of emergency stop.
