摘要： In a printer for printing an attributed character by printing a character part and an attribute part separately, the invented printer or typewriter is so constructed that only an attribute part, e.g., an underline part or a bold face part, is printed in case a printed character is detected to already have the attribute, i.e., is underlined, or bold face, thereby preventing a character part of the printed character from being double printed. This results in improved quality in printed characters and in complete clear character erasures. The printer is also effective for overprinting attribute parts to over a desired range of printed character.

摘要： A method and apparatus for printing characters in bold form in a typing system. As disclosed, characters entered through an input device (13) such as a keyboard are printed on paper, placed in a display (12) and stored in memory substantially as they are entered. After a group of characters, such as a line of characters, have been entered and printed, those characters which are to be printed in bold form are identified from the information stored in the memory. The thus-identified characters are then printed a second time at a position slightly offset from that of the first printing of each of the characters.

摘要： A character enhancement generator (12) for use with a printer for the reproduction of bold typeface character designs, generally includes a dot sequence input terminal (100) for receiving input data. Two bold control input terminals (110, 111) enable the selection of the desired bold mode. A combinational logic circuit (102) is connected to the dot sequence input terminal and to the bold control input terminals, for implementing the selection of the desired bold mode. A memory circuit (104) is connected to the combinational logic circuit, for storing data indicative of the previous input sequence to provide the desired bold mode. An output terminal (106) is connected to the memory circuit, for supplying dot sequence output data.

摘要： A method and system are described for producing identification characters that are both man and machine readable. The identification characters, such as those on a patient's I.D. bracelet or an inventory control tag, are scanned with an optical character reader. The character information obtained from the reader, or other input source, is processed an used to control the reproduction of the identification characters using a dot matrix printer. The readability of the characters is enhanced by using thermal paper and increasing the heat applied by the dot matrix printer to (1) enlarge the area of the dots and (2) increase their optical absorbance. The increased area and absorbance produces an apparent solid line character which is more easily readable by an optical character reader.
