摘要:
A finishing apparatus (16), particularly for use in conjunction with an electrophotographic printing machine (10), in which a plurality of sheets (98) are attached along a marginal portion (96) to one another to form a booklet. The sheets are compiled in a tray (66) to form a set which is then advanced to a stapling apparatus (82) and/or an adjacent binding apparatus (80). The set of sheets may thus be secured to one another by either stapling, binding, or a combination of both.

A machine (Fig. 2) for producing a saddle-stapled booklet has a trayfor receiving and registering sheets to form a group of sheets. The group of sheets is moved horizontally between the upper edge of a vertically movable folder blade (4) between a pair of parallel, side-by-side rollers (2) to fold the sheets. Continued upward movement of the blade (4) drives the folded group of sheets against a pair of staplers (1,1). The booklet thus produced is rejected laterally by a pair of crease-forming rollers (3) disposed side-by-side and rotatable in parallel vertical axes.

A stapling machine has stapling heads (18) mounted on a pivoted beam (14) so as to rise and fall into co-operation with anvils (32) in a fixed knife edge (34). Sheet material is advanced over a platform (60A, B) to a position between the stapling heads and the knife edge so that it can be stapled. It can also be creased along the spine by means of a pair of bars (38) spring-loaded towards each other and carried on arms (39) pivoted (41) so that the bars (38) can be brought down onto the sheet material and press it down around the knife edge. The lower end of the movement of the bars can trip a microswitch (84) to electrically operate the stapling heads, or the stapling heads can be separately manually operated. The bars (38) can be arranged to grip the folded spine of the sheet material on the return movement, so as to present the spine for manual removal from between the bars.
摘要:
A clinching mechanism (28) for bending the legs of a staple and stapler apparatus incorporating such a mechanism. The clinching mechanism (28) includes two pivotal ears (45, 46) each of which is formed with a cutting edge (70, 71) which cooperates with a fixed cutting edge (72, 73) arranged to cut the excess portions of staple legs. The length of the portions cut off is in accordance with the thickness of the set being stapled, the thinner the set, the longer the portions.
