Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zum Betrieb einer Verpackungsmaschine (2), bei dem Betriebsparameter (P) wie Anzahl von zu verpackenden Gegenständen pro Zeiteinheit, Verpackungsabmessungen wie Verpakkungslänge, Siegelzeiten und dgl. von einer Bedienperson über eine elektronische Steuerungseinrichtung einstellbar sind und Antriebe von in der Verpackungsmaschine bewegten Bauelementen (24) wie Hüllstofförderer, Siegelbacken und dgl. von der elektronischen Steuereinheit in Abhängigkeit der eingestellten Betriebsparameter regelbar sind, wobei der elektronischen Steuereinrichtung maschinenspezifische statische Grenzwerte wie Maschinenbreite, maximale Beschleunigung, maximale Abbremsung und dgl. eingebbar sind, daß für jede Veränderung eines Betriebsparameters (P) in Abhängigkeit der maschinenspezifischen statischen Grenzwerte die einstellungsspezifischen dynamischen Grenzwerte wie Abbremsweg und dgl. ermittelt und gewählte Betriebsparameter in Abhängigkeit der ermittelten dynamischen Grenzwerte von der Steuereinrichtung freigebbar sind oder abgelehnt werden.
