摘要： An impact sensitive detonator, particularly suitable for the initiation of explosive charges in oil wells, comprises a cylindrical casing (10,110) closed at one end and open at the other end, the closed end having a thin striking surface (22,122) which deforms without rupture when struck by a rounded firing pin (60). The casing contains a primary explosive charge (50) preferably lead azide, adjacent to the closed end, a mass of finely divided refractory material (52), for example silicon carbide adjacent to the primary expolsive charge and an impact member (40, 140), extending transversely across the casing and forming with the casing a confined space for the primary explosive charge and the refractory material. The refractory material and the impact member aid the initiation of the primary explosive charge. Optionally a second charge of primary explosive may be placed on the output side of the impact member. Preferred forms of the detonator contain an output charge (56) of high explosive, for example, hexanitrostilbene between the impact member and the open end of the casing.

摘要： A primer assembly for use in the non-electric initiation of cap-insensitive explosives, especially of deck-loaded explosive charges by means of a single downline of low-energy detonating cord (LEDC), includes a percussion-actuated detonator seated in a cavity in a high-energy primer, and an explosive coupler in which a coupling explosive charge, housed in a plastic connecting block, is in initiating proximity to the detonator's percussion-sensitive ignition charge and sufficiently close to a cord-receiving perforation or conduit in or adjacent the primer as to be initiatable by the detonation of LEDC threaded therethrough. A preferred connecting block has means for engaging the detonator, and means for attaching the block to the primer. Preferably the explosive coupler is seated within a block-like cavity in the primer.

摘要： An initiatory explosive suitable for use in a detonator in place of the known ASA mixture is composed of isogonous mixed crystals of lead azide and lead styphnate which can be produced by introducing simultaneously into a reactor vessel a solution containing lead acetate and a solution containing a water-soluble styphnate and sodium azide so as to cause them to react in the presence of a crystal habit modifier such as dextrin or carboxymethyl cellulose which will cause the resulting precipitate to be a homogeneous crystalline material composed of isogonous mixed crystals.
