摘要： Certain substituted anthraquinone compounds have been found to be useful as isotropic dyestuffs in guest-host combinations with nematic, cholesteric and smectic liquid crystals and other well-known dichroic dyestuffs. By "isotropic" it is meant that the disclosed dyestuffs have optical order parameters (S) very close to zero. Use of the disclosed isotropic dyestuffs with additional well-known dichroic dyes in liquid crystal display devices, provides displays which alter between one colored state and another, depending upon the presence or absence of an electric field across the display.

摘要： There are described organic dyes containing silane groups, composite pigments obtainable therefrom by grafting on an inorganic substrate, and the respective processes for preparing the same. The dyes have the general formula:

R, and R 2 , which may be the same or different, are H, -NH 2 , -NHR wherein R is an alkyl group having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms or a phenyl group, -NHCOCH 3 , -NHCOC 6 H 5 , -N0 2 , a halogen, -OH,-O-C 6 H 5 , or -S-C 6 H 5 ; n is 3, 4 or 5; W is an alkyl group having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms or a phenyl group; q is 0 or 1; Y is an alkoxy group having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms; x is 3 and m is 0, 1, or 3 when q is 0; and x is 2 and m is 0, 1 or 2 when q is 1. The composite pigments obtained from the dyes may be employed in preparing painting products, air enamels and stoving enamels, in the pigmentation of plastics materials, and in inks and pastes for the printing of fabrics.
