This invention provides semiconductor nanoparticles having fluorescence properties and comprising a modifying group represented by the following general formula bound to their surfaces, a method for producing the same, and a fluorescence reagent comprising semiconductor nanoparticles: -OY wherein Y is selected from a hydrogen atom, a metal atom, a semimetal atom, an organic group, or an organic group that is intermediated by a metal atom or a semimetal atom. In this method, the surfaces of the semiconductor nanoparticles were modified with a hydroxyl group or the like for stabilization. This realizes the production of semiconductor nanoparticles having fluorescence properties that significantly emit only the band gap fluorescence, the production of which at the industrial level was previously very difficult due to the necessity of many processes and from the viewpoint of technology and safety.

A process for forming an opacifying pigment encapsulated in polymer including (a) dispersing a pigment particle having an average particle diameter of from 150 to 500 nm and an index of refraction of at least 1.8 such as, for example, TiO2 in a medium with from 0.1% to 10% by weight, based on the weight of said pigment particle, sulfur acid-functional first polymer whereby the zeta potential of the dispersed pigment particle is less than -28 mV between pH 5 and pH 8; and (b) performing an emulsion polymerization in the presence of the dispersed pigment particle to provide from 10% to 200%, by weight, based on the weight of the pigment particle, second polymer that at least partially encapsulates the dispersed pigment particle. Also provided are the encapsulated pigment particle so formed and compositions including the encapsulated pigment particle.

Coating of organic and inorganic pigments with acrylic resins, comprising a chemical compound consisting of particles of solid organic and inorganic substances, both defined as pigments, in that they are substances which absorb a fraction of the light and reflect the complementary part thereof, coated with acrylic and, optionally, aldehyde and/or ketone resins. The latter are deposited on the surface of the pigment by means of a process which envisages melting of the resin, consequent wetting and coating of the entire surface of the pigment with the resin in the melted state, the consequent cooling and subsequent step of grinding by means of mechanical systems operating in temperature conditions lower than 20° C, by means of cryogenic processes or granulate by means of a wet method with a water jet cutting action and separation of the granulates by the water on a vibrating screen and then dried on a spiral elevator. The product resulting from this invention will be used as a semifinished product for the colouring and pigmentation of powder paints and plastics as a monochromatic colouring material and or will also be used, after dissolving in a solvent, or in water with basic pH, as a pigmented paste or directly in solvent or water based resins in the liquid paints industry.

Verfahren zur Herstellung von Bleimolybdatpigmenten, enthaltend Bleichromat, Bleisulfat und Bleimolybdat, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Bleimolybdatpigmente durch Reaktion einer wässrigen Lösung eines Bleisalzes mit einer wässrigen Lösung enthaltend Chromat-, Molybdat- und Sulfatsalze oder mit einer entsprechenden wässrigen Lösung jedes dieser Salze unter Verwendung von 2 bis 5 Mol-% Bleimolybdatimpfkristallen, bezogen auf die Gesamt-Molmenge Bleichromat, -sulfat und -molybdat, hergestellt werden. Die so erhaltenen Bleimolybdatpigmente sind farbstark und eignen sich ausgezeichnet zum Färben von hochmolekularem organischem Material.
