The present invention relates to an apparatus for equipment monitoring. The apparatus comprises an input unit, a processing unit, and an output unit. The input unit is configured to provide the processing unit with a plurality of batches of temporal sensor data for an item of equipment. Each batch of temporal sensor data comprises a plurality of temporal sensor values as a function of time. The processing unit is configured to process the plurality of batches of temporal sensor data to determine a plurality of batches of spectral sensor data. Each batch of spectral sensor data comprises a plurality of spectral sensor values as a function of frequency. The processing unit is configured to implement at least one statistical process algorithm to process the plurality of spectral sensor values for the plurality of batches of spectral sensor data to determine a plurality of index values. For each batch of spectral sensor data there is an index value determined by each of the statistical process algorithms. Each statistical process algorithm has an associated threshold value, and the processing unit is configured to utilise the at least one threshold value and the plurality of index values to determine a batch of spectral sensor data of interest that has an index value greater than the threshold value for the associated statistical process algorithm. The processing unit is configured to determine a frequency range of interest on the basis of the plurality of spectral sensor values for the batch of spectral sensor data of interest.

Collection of the vibration recording is initiated by the user while at the vibrating machine 120. The processor is also configured to determine a plurality of threshold sets applicable to the vibration recording and select, by the processor, a first available threshold set from the plurality of threshold sets. The processor is also configured to compare the vibration level of the vibration recording to the first threshold set and display to the user a visual qualitative indication of the vibration recording using the display device, thereby enabling the user to determine a quality of the vibration recording while at the vibrating machine 120.

A sound/vibration resonance separating device for resonance-separating and instantly visualizing sound and vibration having one of various frequencies by fixing vibrators such as a plurality of piano wires to a rigid body. In other words, the device is an auditory model for executing Fourier transform instantly. In Fig, 2, numerals 1 - 20 designate vibrators having various natural vibrations. When a sound is inputted from a microphone for converting it into an electric signal to a device body, as shown in Fig. 4, the electric signal is amplified/controlled by an electronic circuit (28) and outputted to a speaker (24) acting as a vibration converting device, and the sound becomes amplified longitudinal vibration to vibrate a rigid body (21) longitudinally. The vibration is transmitted to the vibrators (1 - 20) fixed to the rigid body and having the natural vibration, and only the vibrator corresponding to the frequency vibrates.
