A novel method and apparatus is disclosed for electronically sensing a negative and a positive in a novel integral film structure (4) of the instant development type using light of different wavelengths so as to produce reflected light from the negative and the positive which are indicative of the luminance characteristics and the chrominance characteristics of the image. The novel integral film structure has a filter which allows the negative to be scanned. Specifically, the filter transmits incident radiation in the range of wavelengths other than a select range of wavelengths to which silver halide emulsion layers are sensitive and blocks the transmission of radiation in the range of wavelengths to which the silver halide emulsion layers are sensitive.

A novel class of bridged indicator dyes is disclosed which possess absorption in the infrared region of the electromagnetic spectrum. These bridged indicator dyes are useful as light-absorbing, pH-sensitive optical filter agents in diffusion transfer photograpic processes adapted to be performed in the presence of ambient light and to diffusion transfer products useful in such processes. These indicator dyes will also find utility in titrations and other analytical techniques and products where pH-sensitive indicator dyes are employed and absorption of infrared is useful.

The present invention also provides such a film assemblage of the foregoing type whereby further ensuring uniform flow of the processing fluid during the spreading process. A photographic film assemblage (10) comprising: a plurality of photographic elements (12) connected in end-to-end fashion and a separable portion connected to and between adjacent pairs of the elements (12) is disclosed wherein each of the separable portions has at least a weakened segment (24) that separates when pulled and allows adjacent pairs of the elements to separate. At least one layer (40) is connected to one of the elements so as to extend generally longitudinally along the film assemblage (10) and be in overlying relationship to at least the weakened portion (24). The layer (40) is constructed and sized to reduce friction on the film assemblage (10) in operative relationship to the pressure applying members (44, 46) to thereby inhibit premature separation of the separable portions and the elements (12).
