摘要: A method evaluates the orientation of a recording medium based on a detection signal from a magnetic head, and based on the result of this evaluation efficiently executes a post-processing operation such as sorting the recording media after it has passed the magnetic head reading position. The transportation path can be shortened in a recording media processing apparatus such as a check reading device using this method. The check reading device reads a check traveling through a transportation path by means of a magnetic head, and determines that the top and bottom of the check are inverted or the medium is paper on which magnetic ink characters are not printed if there is no change in the detection signal. If magnetic ink characters cannot be recognized from the detection signal, a magnetic ink character recognition process based on the detection signal patterns that are output when the magnetic ink characters are read from the back side is applied, the front and back of the check are determined to be reversed if recognition is possible, and the top and bottom of the check are determined to be inverted if recognition is not possible. Transportation is paused (ST6) so that the check does not reach first and second check discharge units or a printing mechanism until this determination is completed. Transportation of the check resumes when the determination is completed (ST9, ST13), and the check is routed to a first check discharge unit or a second check discharge unit and/or is printed by the printing mechanism. The transportation path can therefore be shortened and the check reading device can be rendered small.

摘要: Stacking apparatus for stacking banknotes or other sheets includes a single slotted-wheel (14) that is rotated to receive sheets (N) fed successively thereto. The sheets are retained in slots (13) of the wheel (14) so as to be carried round with the wheel (14) into abutment with stripper means (16) which dislodges the sheets from the slots (13) so that they stack one upon the other (S). The stripper means has abutments on both sides of the single wheel (14), and may be a plate (16) which is slotted to extend up on both sides of the, wheel to provide said abutments and which also provides an abutment against which the stripped sheets fall in register upon one another in orderly stack (S). The wheel (14) may be a plastics moulding with the slots defined by individual curved-tines (19) moulded as one with the remainder of the wheel, and may be mounted centrally of the sheet-feed path.

摘要: An automatic transaction machine (ATM) prints on both sides of a document having a first side and a second side. A printer rotates about a printer axis allowing the printer to move between a first position and a second position. A transport moves a document adjacent the printer in the first position. While in the first position the printer is configured to print on a first side of the document as the document passes the printer on the transport. A document spool with a spool axis receives the document from the transport and at least partially rotates the document so the first side of the document is facing toward the spool axis. The printer rotates about the printer axis to the second position to print on the second side of the document that is facing outward away from the spool axis.
