A tape reel (10) according to the present invention is so constructed that an upper flange (12) and a lower flange (13) are respectively provided at an upper and a lower ends of a cylindrical reel hub (11) around which a magnetic tape (20) is wound, and a maximum value of a distance from the upper flange (12) and the lower flange (13) to lateral ends of the magnetic tape (20) is set to be 0.5mm or more, and less than 1.0mm. The magnetic tape (20) according to the invention includes a nonmagnetic substrate (21), a magnetic layer (22) provided on one face of the nonmagnetic substrate and a back layer (23) provided on the other face of the nonmagnetic substrate, and in a state where the magnetic tape is wound around the tape reel (10), a distance (U1 + D1) from the upper flange (12) and the lower flange (13) to lateral ends of the back layer (23) is larger than a distance (U2 + D2) from the upper flange (12) and the lower flange (13) to lateral ends of the nonmagnetic substrate (21) or lateral ends of the magnetic layer (22). Further, a magnetic tape cassette according to the invention is provided with at least one of the above described tape reel (10) and the magnetic tape (20). The biaxially oriented laminated film comprises a film layer (A) made of an aromatic polyester (A) and a film layer (B) made of an aromatic polyester (B), wherein the content of a 6,6'-(alkylenedioxy)di-2-naphthoic acid component represented by the following formula (I) based on the total of all the acid components is less than 5 mol% in the aromatic polyester (A) and not less than 5 mol% and less than 80 mol% in the aromatic polyester (B); and the peak temperature of tanδ on a high temperature side is 135°C or higher when viscoelasticity is measured in the machine direction.

This invention provides a biaxially oriented polyester film, which has a Young's modulus (YMD) in a film formation direction of not less than 6.5 GPa and a Young's modulus (YTD) in a widthwise direction of 8.2 to 9.8 GPa and is suitable for use as a base film in a magnetic recording tape for a linear recording system, and a magnetic recording tape for a linear recording system, using the biaxially oriented polyester film as a base film. The biaxially oriented polyester film has excellent dimensional stability, particularly dimensional stability in the widthwise direction.
