    Abstract: This application provides an optical communication system, an optical communication method, an optical module, and an apparatus used in an optical module. A plurality of optical modules at a local end are cascaded, so that communication between a plurality of fronthaul interfaces at the local end and a peer end can be implemented through only one optical fiber link, thereby saving optical fiber resources. The optical communication system includes N optical modules at the local end. Each optical module includes a first optical interface and a second optical interface. A first optical interface of a first optical module in the N optical modules at the local end is connected to a peer end through an optical fiber. A second optical interface of an i th optical module in the N optical modules at the local end is connected to a first optical interface of an (i+1) th optical module in the N optical modules at the local end, and i=1, 2, ..., N-1.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for optimizing performance of a multi-span optical fiber network, wherein each span has an associated optical transmission fiber connected to an associated optical amplifier, wherein gain and output power of the associated optical amplifier are respectively controlled independently, and wherein an amplifier noise figure respectively depends on the gain of the associated optical amplifier wherein each associated optical amplifier is further connected to launch optical signals into a remainder of a corresponding optical transmission line, and wherein the method (20) comprises the steps of:

    Abstract: In an optical submarine cable system in which terminal stations are connected by a plurality of optical fiber transmission lines, a specified optical fiber transmission line is connected to an optical fiber transmission line for branching, without increasing the number of constituent elements between an optical submarine branching apparatus and a branch station to the extent possible.
    An optical submarine branching apparatus 1 includes a control unit (1a) and a switching unit (1b). The switching unit (1b) connects to a plurality of first optical fiber transmission lines connecting to a first terminal station, a plurality of second optical fiber transmission lines connecting to a second terminal station, and a third optical fiber transmission line connecting to a third terminal station, and switches a transmission route of a wavelength-multiplexed optical signal. The control unit (1a) controls the switching of the transmission route by the switching unit (1b). The switching unit (1b) includes a function of connecting each of the plurality of first optical fiber transmission lines to one of the plurality of second optical fiber transmission lines. The switching unit (1b) further includes a function of switching any one of the plurality of first optical fiber transmission lines to connect to the third optical fiber transmission line.
