Abstract:
Apparatus for interfacing a network manager to a network of communication devices over a single communications channel of a plurality of signals is disclosed. Each communication device of the network is uniquely assigned a poll address for communication selection by the network manager which is operative to establish communication with a communication device of the network by transmitting the poll address thereof over the single communication channel. The network of communication devices are coupleable together in a daisy chain through input and output port circuits thereof to form the single communications channel. The input port circuit of each communications device receives and transmits signals from and to the single communications channel upstream of its position in the daisy chain and the output port circuit of each receives and transmits signals from and to the single communications channel downstream of its position in the daisy chain. In addition, the input port circuit of the communication device in the first position of the daisy chain is coupleable to the network manager for receiving signals, including the poll address, therefrom and for transmitting signals thereto. Each communication device further includes a control circuit which is coupleable to both the input and output port circuits thereof for governing the receiving and transmitting operations of each based on the poll address transmitted over the single communications channel by the network manager.
Abstract:
Data communications connections between interactive terminals (T11) and host computers generally exhibit long holding times, while the data density of the transmission is sparse. The circuit switch (101) of a switching system is an inefficient and expensive medium for this type of communication. Thus, the subject switching system uses a packet switch (106) connected in parallel with the circuit switch (101) to handle bursty data traffic from interactive terminals (T11). A routing bit (Fig. 6) is set in the data stream from each port circuit (111) to indicate the nature of the transmission and this transmission is then routed to the packet switch (106) if it is a bursty data transmission while voice messages are routed to the circuit switch (101).

Es soll erreicht werden, daß bei der Einführung von Breitband-Kommunikationsnetzen existierende Vermittlungsanlagen und Endgeräte des Dienste integrierenden Digitalnetzes ISDN unverändert beibehalten werden können und mit auf asynchroner Basis arbeitenden Breitband-Kommunikations-Vermittlungsanlagen zusammen arbeiten. Ein Anschlußorgan einer im asynchronen Zeitmultiplex arbeitenden ATM-Vermittlungsanlage ist jeweils mit einem zugeordneten Anschlußorgane an einer ISDN-Vermittlungsanlage verbunden. Dort werden ISDN-Schmalbanddaten den Breitbanddaten hinzugefügt und/oder von diesen getrennt, indem mit Verletzungen der Coderegel gearbeitet wird. Beide Arten von Daten werden gemeinsam über eine Teilnehmeranschlußleitung zu einer Netzabschlußeinrichtung übertragen woran Endgeräte verschiedener Kategorie angeschlossen sein können. Sowohl Breitbandvermittlungsanlagen nach dem asynchronen Zeitmultiplexverfahren als auch bestehende ISDN-Vermittlungsanlagen können zusammenarbeiten, ohne daß Vorleistungen größeren Umfangs erforderlich sind. Bei der Einführung von Breitband-Kommunikationsnetzen können bestehende Netzstrukturen des Dienste integrierenden Digitalnetzes beibehalten werden, wobei auch vorhandene Endgeräte benutzbar sind, welche mit Endgeräten des Breitband-Kommunikationsnetzes ohne weiteres kommunizieren können.

An accurate reception determining can be performed independent of a traffic characteristic value reported by a user. Traffic data are collected for respective set conditions (step 1016, 1022), and stored (step 1024). When a call connection request is made (step 1002) and if the traffic characteristic value is stored (step 1004), then, reception determining is performed by use of the traffic characteristic value thus stored.

A method of switching synchronous signal sources of a synchronous data communication network having offices (A B, C and D) connected to each other through circuits and synchronous signal sources installed inside and outside an office, in which even when a failure occurs in one of synchronizing signal sources, data communications are possible through switching the synchronizing signal sources to others according to the degree of the failure. Preset are flag bit data (S, *S), which indicate whether the synchronizing signal transmitted via the main wire is usable or not, in the signal including the synchronizing signal. When a failure occurs in one of the synchronizing signal sources, referring to the table specifying the priority order for selecting one synchronizing signal source, the table which is provided before-hand in every office, one synchronizing signal source is selected for every office according to the flag bit data. Then, in every office, the synchronizing signal source which has been selected at the present time is switched to a synchronizing signal source determined as mentioned above.
