A pulsating negative pressure with alternating consecutive suction phases (A) and release phases (B) is generated in the teat cup of a milker by way of a vacuum device that comprises a vacuum pump and a pulsator valve, said pulsator valve being controlled via a control signal. The inventive device allows a continuous pressure build-up and/or pressure reduction by repeatedly briefly controlling the pulsator valve in the phase transitions between the suction phases (A) and the release phases (B).
