Ein mehrfach gefalteter vollautomatisch zu öffnender und zu schließender Schirm, bestehend aus einem Rahmen (A), einem Schirmdach aus Stoff, einem mittleren Schirmstocksatz (B), einem oberen Top (C), einem unteren Schirmschieber (D), einem Handgriff (G), einem Schirmöffnungs- und Schließungsübertragungsmechanismus (E) (Übersetzungsmechanismus), der in der mittleren Stockeinheit (B) angeordnet ist. Die mittlere Stockeinheit (B) ist mit mindestens drei ineinander teleskopierbar bzw. gleitbeweglichen Schirmstockteilen, und zwar einem äußeren Schirmstock oder Außenrohr (B1), einem mittleren Schirmstock oder Mittelrohr (B2) und einem inneren Schirmstock oder Innenrohr (B3), vom Schirmtop nach unten gesehen, versehen. Der Übersetzungsmechanismus (E) für das Öffnen und Schließen des Schirms umfasst ein Schieberzugseil (E1), ein mittleres Mittelrohrzugseil (E2) und ein Innenrohrzugseil (E3). Ein Ende des Schieberzugseils (E1) ist am Mittelrohrstopfen (3) des Mittelrohres (B2) befestigt. Das äußere Ende desselben ist mit der unteren Krone (C) befestigt. Ein Ende des Mittelrohrzugseils (E2) ist am oberen Ende des Innenrohrs (B3) befestigt und das andere Ende desselben ist am Top des Außenrohres (B1) befestigt. Das Öffnungs- und Schließungssystem (F) umfasst Antriebselemente (6, 7, 8), die mit dem Mittelrohrstopfen (3) verbunden sind und einer Kraftquelle (9) zum Antrieb der Antriebselemente (6, 7, 8), um das Innenrohr (B3) auf und ab zu bewegen. Die Antriebsquelle (9) wird durch einen Knopf (G2) am Griff (G) gesteuert. Das Öffnungs- und Schließungssystem (F) treibt das Mittelrohr (B2) der mittleren Stockeinheit (B) an, um das Innenrohr (B3) auf und ab anzutreiben, wobei durch getriebliche Verbindung die Öffnungs- und Schließungsfunktion über die Schirmstockteile (B1, B2, B3) und den mittleren Schirmstock (B1) auch das Schirmdach zur selben Zeit angetrieben wird.

In a conventional automatic umbrella, the straight telescopic shaft is located exactly in the middle of the umbrella when opened. Due to the unfavorable position of the telescopic shaft, only approximately 1/3 of the umbrella area is used. The aim of the invention is to increase the utilization ratio of the umbrella area. The inventive umbrella is comprised of a curved telescopic shaft (1) with a connecting piece (3), of the crown (2), the top rod system with the top cover (4), the slid unit (5), and of the handle (6). The connecting piece (3), the slide unit (5) and the pivotal crown (2) enable the curved telescopic shaft (1) to be laterally situated in relation to the opened top cover (4), and keeps the middle of the umbrella free. The stability of the opened top rod system with the top cover (4) is guaranteed by the interaction of the connecting piece (3), the guide slide (1.3), the crown (2), the slide unit (5), the support braces (4.2) and of the auxiliary braces (4.3).

In a preferred embodiment the spring (8) is a gas spring mounted inside the central post (1) of the umbrella and is operatively connected to a collar (7) slidably mounted on the post and which in turn is connected via struts (6) to the arms (2) of the umbrella, by means of a flexible cord (11) connected at its opposite ends to the collar and reeved around pulley blocks (9,10) at opposite ends of the gas spring. After manually initiating the opening of the umbrella by pivoting the arms, in the collapsed position, away from the post, the opening action is completed automatically by the action of the spring (8). Closing of the umbrella is effected by downward pressure on the arms of the umbrella against the action of the spring.

The presently disclosed umbrella device accomplishes both automatic opening, as accomplished by the previous art (but by a means different from that of the prior art) and in addition discloses a means by which the automatic closing of the umbrella can be accomplished (by a means not disclosed in the prior art). Novel mechanical means are used to open and close the umbrella without the need to move the hand from its normal position on the handle (13 or 58), the normal carrying position. A preferred embodiment of the invention uses compressed gas in an ampule (23) to extend a spring (7) provided for the opening of the umbrella (1) while extending the telescoped handle cylinders (9 and 5) which closes the umbrella. The preferred embodiment also features a sleeve (12) which can simultaneously exhaust gas to atmosphere through the port (18) while releasing the mechanical latch (34) to allow a spring (7) to telescope the handle cylinders (5 and 9) and deploy the umbrella canopy (11).
