A grinding and shaping method using a vertical grinding mill, used for grinding and shaping a powder or a granular material, comprising: selecting a vertical grinding mill: selecting a vertical grinding mill with suitable thread pitch/diameter ratio of the spiral rotor according to the raw material to be ground; adding a grinding medium: selecting the grade of a grinding medium and determining the filling factor according to the requirements of the particle sizes of the raw material and the ground product, and then adding the grinding medium into the grinding chamber of the vertical grinding mill; initiating the vertical grinding mill: sequentially initiating a dust collector, an air blowing device, a driving device and a feeding device, wherein the driving device propels the spiral rotor to rotate, and the air blowing device blows upward from the bottom of the grinding chamber; adjusting parameters: adjusting the rotation speed of the spiral rotor of the vertical grinding mill to change the cycling speed of the raw material and the grinding medium in the grinding chamber, thereby changing the flow rate of the raw material in the grinding chamber; feeding and grinding: feeding a raw material from the feeding port at the upper end of the grinding chamber and then grinding; discharging: initiating a discharging device, and discharging the material from the discharging port at the lower end of the grinding chamber.

The invention relates to a unit for the micronization of a solid active agent, such as a salt, preferably table salt (NaCI), for inhalation, comprising a micronizer driven by a motor. The unit according to the invention is characterised in that micronization is performed by a unit constituted by a closed rotary drum (2) receiving a solid active agent having the same grain size, preferably 0.1-4 mm, as table salt (NaCI), where the wall surfaces of the micronizer unit are made at least in part of a material having a filtering capacity of 0.1-1000 μm, the material preferably being a mesh-like or microperforated material. A further unit according to the invention is characterised in that the micronizer consists of a rotary block (23) made of the active agent, a friction block (24) adapted to be in frictioning relation with the rotary block, and a clamping mechanism (25) adapted for holding the friction block (24) in position and for clamping the friction block (24) to the rotary block (23), the micronizer being disposed in a closed housing (11), and the wall surfaces of the housing (11) being at least in part made of a material having a filtering capacity of 0.1-1000 μm.

A process for making fibrillated fibers includes preparing a fluid suspension of fibers, low shear refining the fibers at a first shear rate to create fibrillated fibers having a reduced CSF, and subsequently higher shear refining the fibers at a second shear rate, higher than the first shear rate, to increase the degree of fibrillation of the fibers. The refining at the first shear rate may be with a rotor at a first maximum shear rate and the refining at the second shear rate may be with a rotor at a second maximum shear rate, higher than the first maximum shear rate. The process may further include pre-treating the fibers by high shear refining with impact to stress the fibers prior to low shear refining.
