In circular knitting machines one source of imperfection in the finished fabric is vibration arising at the point of meshing between a ring gear for the needle cylinder and a driving pinion. In accordance with the invention, this is overcome or mitigated by lengthening the transmission path between the ring gear and the needle cylinder and also by inclusion, where appropriate, of a vibration damping device. As shown in Fig. 1, a needle cylinder (20) is mounted on a disc (21) on a hollow shaft (22) driven by a wheel (24). Drive to the wheel (24) is from a ring gear (40), mounted on a support ring (12), via transmission arms (26). A vibration disperser or damping device has a ring shaped end (31) clamping a hub portion of a support table (13) in which a shaft (22) is mounted. The opposite end (30) of the damping device is solid with a separate supporting frame (16) which also mounts a drive (M and 80) for a pinion (41) in mesh with the ring gear (40).

Improved apparatus and technique for the circular weft knitting of articles including an improved knitting machine control synchronization system for computer control operation using independently operable, modular components. Needle selection for knit, tuck or float operation is effected by a unique presser cam system which flexes the lower end of compound needles outwardly where they are selectively and magnetically held or released according to a prescribed program to enter one or one set of plurality of cam tracks (3120) depending on the intended function of the needle. The upper end of the needles are positively engaged and held at a prescribed position above the fulcrum (3108) during such selection operation. A modified sinker element (2090) and sinker drive system accommodate an increased range of stitch length control and compensate for variations in yarn elasticity. The yarn knitting cylinder is directly driven by a hollow core motor concentrically arranged with respect to the longitudinal axis (1904) of the knitting cylinder. Finally there is provided an improved laser yarn cutting system.

The present invention provides a circular type knitting machine for intarsia, which can stably knit a rib part of an object while firmly holding knitting yarns cut from the object. The circular type knitting machine includes a knitting needle cylinder (200) which is provided inside a plurality of cam support covers (251), a plurality of knitting yarn separating devices (400) which is circumferentially arranged on an annular support plate (130), and a cam mechanism including various kinds of cams and provided on the plurality of cam support covers (251). The circular type flat knitting machine further includes a knitting yarn gathering device (500) to gather a plurality of knitting yarns and to supply the plurality of knitting yarns to a center of the knitting needle cylinder (200). Thus, the knitting yarns, which have been separated for knitting a rib part of an object, are rearranged into a state for intarsia knitting. The circular type knitting machine further includes a rib knitting needle plate coupling unit (600) which moves a rib knitting needle plate (302) downwards to be selectively coupled to the knitting needle cylinder (200), and thereafter, rotates the rib knitting needle plate (302) relative to the knitting needle cylinder (200) around the center of the knitting needle cylinder within a predetermined angular range.
