A method and apparatus for measuring the temperature of an external body is disclosed. The apparatus comprises dual thermal sinks or reference bodies wherein heat flow sensors are mounted. By utilizing dual thermal reference bodies, which are at different temperatures, the method of the invention yields the absolute temperature of the external body by measuring the temperatures of the referenced bodies and the heat flow rates between each of the reference bodies and the external body. The apparatus automatically calculates the proportionality constant between the heat flow rates and the temperature differences between the external body and the reference bodies and thus calculates the external body temperature.

L'objet de l'invention concerne une première addition apportée au Brevet Français No 79 20 749 du 09/09/1979, pour un dispositif de contrôle de température (ou d'autre paramètre physique binaire) de pièces à mouvement périodique. Le dispositif suivant l'invention est constitué par la combinaison d'une bobine fixe (1), émettrice d'un champ magnétique dont une partie du flux est captée par une bobine réceptrice fixe (2), ainsi que d'une troisième bobine (3) fixée sur la pièce mobile formant écran entre les deux autres, lors de son passage. Il est destiné à permettre la mesure permanente et le contrôle de la température de pièces à mouvement périodique.

A system (1) for measuring the dynamic pressure distribution between rolls (2 and 6) in a nip roll press comprises a roll (6) adapted to rotatably contact at least one other roll (2) in a press nip, having one or more sensors (4) thereon, for measuring the nip pressure at several locations along the roll length, wherein the measurements obtained by the sensors (4) are transmitted to a computer (18) and a display (20), to provide tabular, numerical and graphical representations of the pressure at one or more locations on the roll (2). Optionally, a control system (22) may be incorporated in the system (1) for determining the pressure distribution along the roll (2) and initiating corrective measures. The system (1) of the instant invention can further measure temperature variations, if desired, as thermal sensors (4) can be used on the sensing roll (2), or the computerized correlation scheme can relate sensor readings to temperature as well as pressure.
