A hologram recording material is provided and has at least a silver halide, an organic refractive index-modulating agent, and a binder. The silver halide undergoes sensitization in accordance with interference fringes caused by holographic exposure, to thus form a latent image. Thereafter the silver halide is subjected to a development process to thus develop the thus-sensitized silver halide, thereby causing reaction of the organic refractive index-modulating agent. Hence, the interference fringes formed by refractive index modulation are recorded.

A process for precipitating a high chloride silver halide emulsion in an aqueous medium is disclosed comprising growing nucleated silver halide grains in a reaction vessel in the presence of a peptizer comprising a water dispersable starch to form high chloride radiation-sensitive silver halide grains, wherein the majority of grain growth in the reaction vessel is performed at a pH of less than 3.5. Growth of high chloride silver halide emulsion grains in the presence of a starch peptizer at low pH in accordance with the invention results in emulsion grains with lower fog, even in the absence of the use of strong oxidizing agents and antifoggants during grain precipitation.

A method is disclosed to prepare a photographic light-sensitive silver halide emulsion, containing regular silver halide crystals rich in chloride having a predictable size distribution and wherein said method comprises the steps of precipitating silver halide crystals rich in chloride by means of the double-jet or triple-jet technique in colloidal silica having a particle size from 0.003 mu m to 0.30 mu m as a protective colloid in the absence of any polymeric compound(s) capable of forming hydrogen bridges with colloidal silica, but always in the presence of an onium compound, wherein the ratio by weight of said colloidal silica to the said onium compound(s) is between 3 and 75; controlling the nucleation and growth steps by means of variable flow rate(s) of the aqueous solutions of silver nitrate and chloride containing salts, and/or by means of constant pAg-values during said steps in the vessel in order to determine the number of nuclei quantitatively in the nucleation step and to avoid renucleation in the growth step, and wherein at every moment the total amount of monovalent ions of the electrolyte present during both steps is less than 1.0 molar; desalting the reaction medium and redispersing the silver halide, chemically ripening the silver halide crystals rich in chloride and adjusting the ratio by weight of the colloidal silica sol to the amount of silver halide, expressed as the equivalent amount of silver nitrate to a value of at least 0.03 at every moment throughout the precipitation stage.

A method is disclosed for washing silver halide photographic emulsions, including desalting and/or concentrating, based on depletion phase separation mechanism, wherein phase separation is effected by the addition of water-soluble non-interactive and non-adsorbing carboxyl polymers. The process involves the separation of the supernatant fluid, containing the undesirable water soluble salts and the added phase separating agents, for the washed and condensed silver halide phase for desalting and redispersion of the latter.

A method for processing a silver halide photographic material. The method comprises the steps of (1) developing, fixing and washing a photographic light-sensitive material which comprises a support and a photographic layer including a silver halide emulsion layer being provided on the support in which the outermost surface of the photographic layer has a matting degree of 0 to 150 mmHg and the silver halide emulsion layer contains colloidal silica particles, (2) drying the silver halide photographic light-sensitive material by contacting with a heat conductive member having a surface temperature of 90 DEG C to 150 DEG C which installed in a drying zone of the automatic processing machine. In the above method, the photographic light-sensitive material has a moisture content of 3 g/m to 6.5 g/m at the point just before of the drying zone and the total time from start of the developing process to finish of the drying process is within the range of more than 15 seconds to less than 45 seconds.
