A graph access device and block access device can simultaneously access a memory pool shared between the devices. The memory pool may include one or more memory arrays accessed as a single logical memory. The block access device accesses the memory pool as a flat array of memory blocks, and the graph access device accesses the memory pool as hierarchical file system. The simultaneous access is accomplished by monitoring one or more memory block access operations performed by the block access device, while it is accessing the memory pool. The block access operations are translated into a graph data structure including a plurality of pointers mapping the memory pool to the hierarchical file system. A processor regulates access to the memory pool, and is configured to permit the graph access device to access the memory pool concurrently with the block access device, in accordance with the graph data structure.

An accessory device (12), such as a DVB-T receiver is operable as a USB host to a mobile telephone (11) to which it is connected via a USB bus (13). When acting as a host, the accessory device (12) provides a 4V supply voltage on VBUS to the mobile telephone, which includes a regulator (18) regulating the voltage to 3.3 Volts. When a host device (PC) is also connected to the USB bus (13), the voltage on VBUS rises, and this is detected by a comparator (21). In response, the accessory device (12) sends a USB reset command sends its USB lines tri-state, and ceases to supply VBUS, thereby relinquishing host status. Loss of the PC (10) is detected by detecting a low voltage on VBUS, following which the accessory device reassumes host status.

A distributed arbitration scheme includes arbiters with each agent. The arbiters receive request signals indicating which agents are arbitrating for the bus. Additionally, the agent currently using the bus broadcasts an agent identifier assigned to that agent. The arbiters receive the agent identifier and use the agent identifier as an indication of the winner of the preceding arbitration. Accordingly, the arbiters determine if the corresponding agent wins the arbitration, but may not attempt to calculate which other agent wins the arbitration. In one embodiment, the arbiter maintains a priority state indicative of which of the other agents are higher priority than the corresponding agent and which of the other agents are lower priority. In one implementation, the bus may be a split transaction bus and thus each requesting agent may include an address arbiter and each responding agent may include a data arbiter.
