A mobile terminal and a ringtone playing method thereof are provided. The playing method includes: selecting a music file which is to be set as a ringtone, and popping up a playing preview interface corresponding to the music file and, meanwhile, playing the music file; sliding a cursor of the playing preview interface to select a playing start position and a playing end position on a playing progress bar corresponding to the music file so as to acquire and save playing information of the ringtone, wherein the playing information comprises a playing start time point and a playing end time point of the ringtone; and in response to occurrence of a ringing event, reading the saved playing information of the ringtone and playing a music clip between the playing start time point and the playing end time point. In this way, the present disclosure not only allows a user to freely select a desired music clip as the ringtone in a convenient and efficient way, but also satisfies the user's demands for individualized ringtone setting by associating the ringtone with a playing object of the ringing event.

A system and method for semi-automated dialing is provided. The system includes a display, and a standard keyboard upon which some keys have both a numeric and alphabetic interpretation. An input is received from the keyboard. A determination is made if the input consists only from the keys that have both numeric and alphabetic interpretation. If this is the case, then a numeric analysis is performed. Otherwise, a word analysis is performed. The numeric analysis includes determining if the input has an alternate interpretation, and if so then displaying them so that the user may select the intended input. Determining alternate interpretations includes comparing the input with a dictionary. The word analysis includes searching for word matches between the received input and words in a dictionary, and then converting the matched words into numbers using telephone convention. Results from the analyses may be dialed.

The device (16) comprises a zero crossing detector (17) for each telephone line monitored to determine the zero voltage crossings in the voltage of an incoming telephone signal, a latch (18) associated with each detector (17) for storing the occurrences of each zero voltage crossing detected and a microcomputer (19) for processing the frequency-related information of the incoming telephone signals according to a voice detection algorithm. The voice detection algorithm comprises timer interrupt and analysis routines that direct the microcomputer (19) to count the number of occurrences of different wavelengths of the waveforms composing an incoming telephone signal in determining the condition of response on a respective telephone line.
