摘要:
The self-baking electrode suitable for use in an electric arc furnace comprises an elongated open ended electrically conductive casing for extending generally vertically within the furnace. A central core made of a heat conductive material is disposed within and spaced from the casing. A framework within is securing the central core to an inner surface of the casing for holding centrally the central core within the casing and for preventing an extrusion of the central core downward. The central core is surrounded by a carbonaceous electrode paste devised to cure into a solid electrode upon heating and to bond to the central core. This self-baking electrode allows the production of silicon metal in a Söderberg-type furnace without any modification to the usual slipping system or addition of another slipping system. An electrode according to the invention allows the same furnace to produce both FeSi of any grade and Si metal without any downtime between the gradual change from one product to the other and each time at the lowest electrode cost.

An electrode slipping device comprises an upper holder (3) and a lower holder, both holders (3) containing one or more clamping shoes (5) and one or more clamping cylinders (6) in co-operation with the clamping shoes (5).The clamping shoes (5) are operable between a position where the electrode is clamped and a position where the electrode is unclamped. The clamping cylinder (6) is connected to the electrode holder (3) by first fastening means (27) and to the clamping shoe (5) by second fastening means (28) such that the clamping cylinder (6) can be released from engagement with the holder (3) by unlocking both sets of fastening means (27, 28).

Multifrequency equipment is provided for sensing the state of self baking electrodes in an electric arc furnace to obtain real values of the internal situation of an electrode where changes of phase are being produced. By means of said external equipment a small low power and variable frequency electric signal is introduced through a good conducting core component of the electrode and which on changing the frequency of said electric current, will allow the electrode situation to be known at different heights, even beneath the baked plates.

This invention relates to an electrode column and a method of determining the length of the electrode in it in an active furnace. The column is a Söderberg column including a mantel in which the electrode is movable in an axial direction by lower and upper slipping clamps which are movable relatively to each other by slipping cylinders. The method includes the steps of moving, with the slip clamps, the electrode in a downslip relatively to the mantel by means of the slipping cylinders and gravity and measuring the force required to move the electrode by means only of the upper slipping clamp against predetermined reaction forces acting against movement of the electrode and computing these parameters to determine the mass and so the length of the electrode relatively to the theoretical mass of the undamaged electrode at the time of movement.
