    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a magnesium hydroxide-based flame retardant which, when added in a resin, can improve the mechanical characteristics, water resistance and acid resistance of a resin composition thereof, and the resin composition containing the flame retardant.
    SOLUTION: The magnesium hydroxide-based flame retardant contains magnesium hydroxide surface-treated with an aqueous (poly)carbodiimide. The resin composition containing the magnesium hydroxide-based flame retardant is also provided.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an inorganic filler which improves, by being incorporated into a vinyl chloride resin or a polyolefin resin, the mechanical properties and weatherability of a resin composition thereof, and to provide the resin composition containing the inorganic filler and a manufacturing method therefor.
    SOLUTION: The inorganic filler that is surface-treated with 12-hydroxystearic acid or a salt thereof and the resin composition containing the inorganic filler are provided. The manufacturing method for the inorganic filler comprises the steps of: (a) wet grinding an inorganic filler to obtain an aqueous slurry; (b) heating and dissolving 12-hydroxystearic acid or the salt thereof in ammonia water; and agitating and mixing the aqueous slurry obtained in the step (a) and the solution obtained in the step (b).
