Abstract:
A technique that can efficiently achieve migration of a configuration and data between storage units with varying constructions of configuration information and that can alleviate burdens of personal operation by an administrator, etc. With the configuration information of each storage unit controlled by the storage control server, based on each piece of configuration information, the transfer-source configuration information is converted into information necessary for establishing the logical partition configuration of a storage unit which has the transfer-destination logical partition function. The information prepared by the conversion is transmitted to the transfer-destination storage unit and the configuration with the transfer-source logical configuration set as the transfer-destination logical partition is updated in the transfer-destination storage unit. After the migration of the configuration, the data is migrated using a remote copy function of carrying out data copy between the transfer-source and transfer-destination logical devices.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress an unnecessary inter-tier file migration; and to provide inter-tier file migration that conforms to the utilization state of a file. SOLUTION: A hierarchical storage management system migrates a frequently accessed file to the upper Tier, and an infrequently accessed file to the lower Tier. The system carries out the inter-tier file migration in line with the utilization state. The system provides a function for anchoring the Tier for storage for the specified file, and a function not permitting the inter-tier file migration. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
Abstract:
Storage network arrangements effecting a method including: acquiring information on the real volumes, and port information on the physical devices in which the real volumes reside; creating virtual volumes being linked to the real volumes, based on the information on the real volumes; forming one or more virtual volume groups by combining the virtual volumes, based on the port information, in such a way that the virtual volumes and the virtual volume groups in which the virtual volumes reside have a virtual-volume-to-virtual-volume-group configuration which is identical to a real-volume-to-physical-device configuration of the real volumes and the physical devices in which the real volumes reside; and establishing the created virtual volume groups in the upper storage apparatus.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate confirmation work of power status of a manager needed by a power saving state of a disk device to facilitate management operation. SOLUTION: When displaying, on a display device of a management console 30, a management picture by which the manager performs the management operation of a file system in a NAS (Network Attached Storage) device 10 that is a file server by use of the management console 30, the NAS device 10 has a function of changing subsequent processing when the disk device acquired from a storage device 20 is in the power saving state. Specifically, in the management picture, the display configured such that the file system cannot be created or deleted to the disk device in the power saving mode is performed. Thereby, the manager performs the management operation of services, even if not confirming the power status, so that the management operation becomes easy. COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of increase of workload of a volume allocation operation to an application of a PC server which used to be performed by an administrator and the work of taking over volumes in accordance with change of a PC server device. SOLUTION: A storage device includes: a means for managing the configuration information of a volume in an application unit; a means for managing information related with the application of the volume in the volume unit of the application; and a means for managing the allocatable area of the storage device by dividing it on the basis of performance and reliability. The volume management system of the storage device includes a means for selecting an allocation area suitable for the system on the basis of the application of the volume of the application; a means for selecting the allocation area suitable for a performance of change of a host according to the performance, and for moving the volume to the suitable area when the host configuration of the application is changed; and a means for changing the setting of the host side by changing the configuration information.
