摘要: PURPOSE:To provide an antitumor agent containing ganglioside GM3 as an active component and useful for the remedy of leukemia. CONSTITUTION:The objective agent contains ganglioside GM3 as an active component. Ganglioside GM3 is a kind of sphingoglycolipid existing as a minor constituent component of cell membrane. It has been found recently that highly characteristic increase of ganglioside GM3 takes place by the differentiation of monocytic macrophage cell and that ganglioside GM3 is effective to induce and promote the differentiation of said cell. The activity of ganglioside GM3 to induce the differentiation of the transformed cell and to develop the activity of functional cell is supposed to be effective to induce the cancerized cell to decancerized cell thereby developing the original functions of the cell and curing leukemia. A significant life-prolonging effect was clearly found in an experimental leukemia mouse.
